Why I Became a Therapist

My journey to becoming a therapist was shaped by both personal experiences and a deep seated desire to help others.

Growing up, I witnessed the profound impact that emotional struggles can have on individuals and families. This awareness sparked my interest in understanding human behaviour and the complexities of mental health.

As I navigated my own challenges, I found solace in the support of compassionate individuals who listened without judgment. Their guidance inspired me to pursue a path where I could offer that same support to others. I realised that many people struggle in silence, and I wanted to be a source of comfort and understanding for those who felt alone in their battles.

I pursued a degree in Counselling, followed by a Master’s Degree in Psychodynamic Counselling, where I learned the importance of exploring the underlying issues that affect mental health. My continued development in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy further enriched my understanding of how thoughts and behaviours are intertwined.

Specialising in Complex Trauma became a natural focus for me, as I recognised the need for specialised support for individuals who have experienced significant emotional pain. My approach as a therapist is person-centred, emphasising the importance of seeing the individual as a whole. I strive to create a safe and nurturing environment where clients can feel empowered to explore their emotions and experiences. It is incredibly fulfilling to witness the growth and healing that can occur when someone feels truly heard and understood.

Beyond my professional life, I am passionate about advocating for equality and diversity in mental health care. I believe that everyone deserves access to compassionate support, and I work to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues through workshops and community engagement.

Ultimately, my journey as a therapist is not just a career; it is a calling. I am deeply committed to supporting others on their paths to healing, and I find immense joy in being a part of their stories.
